      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Hilda Paviter (Malaysia-2023)</image:title>
<image:caption>Hilda Paviter Kaur Soba Singh is the Co-founder of R.ED (Reimagine Education) - a non profit organization that aims to lower the education barriers faced by marginalized communities in Malaysia. Hilda studied anthropology in Sabah, taught for two years under a Teach for Malaysia fellowship, and now works full time as a Programme Director at Classroom Adventures, an organization that gamifies content such as financial literacy and sustainability education. During COVID Hilda volunteered as a teacher for a Burmese refugee community, and was struck by the lack of teachers, resources, and organization surrounding programming the programme for these children. Her goal for R.ED is to create an alternative education programme that includes life skills and personal development for marginalized communities in Kuala Lumpur.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Christine grew up in Nairobi, Kenya, where she studied actuarial science as an undergraduate, then received her masters in the same degree in the UK. She’s worked as a teacher and at various start-ups but has recently decided to focus on a cause she is passionate about: gender based violence. Christine began her initiative, the Common Good Institute, by starting a Whatsapp support group for local women searching for advice on how to escape from intimate partner violence (IPV). Besides support group meetings, Christine has been developing an agenda of workshops for women struggling with IPV, including understanding the building blocks of abuse, mental models, how to gain financial independence, and others. Chistine hopes to provide a safe, confidential space for women in her community who are suffering from domestic abuse and give them the tools and support they need to rebuild their lives.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Camila was born and raised in San Juan Lurigancho in Lima, Peru. Having attended public school herself and having two parents who are public school teachers, Camila is intimately aware of the challenges faced by Peruvian public highschool students as they try to apply to university. While private academies focus their curriculum on helping students pass the standard college entrance exam, public schools do not - leaving many capable students unable to achieve their goals and attain higher education. Camila’s initiative, Sumaq Yachay, aims to provide entrance exam tutoring to Peruvian children who cannot afford it, and equip them with the confidence that they can achieve a career in any high-earning industry, no matter their economic background.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Muhammed Coker (Gambia-2023)</image:title>
<image:caption>Muhammed is a final year accountancy major and social entrepreneur who was born and raised in Gambia. He is also a licensed business development trainer and coach. His path to his initiative began after COVID, when he started “The Entrepreneurial Adventure”, an online platform where he created content on business and career tips to support budding entrepreneurs and SMEs through videos and social media. During this time he learned that agriculture, the mainstay of the Gambian economy and which accounts for approximately one third of the country’s GDP, still suffers major setbacks as most entrepreneurs within the value chain are smallholder farmers engaging in subsistence agriculture. Muhammed therefore began the Agro Incubation Hub (AIH) to promote the development of climate-smart sustainable agricultural practices in Gambia by supporting smallholder farmers attain the right climate-smart technologies and agribusiness skills to enable them to improve agricultural productivity and adaptability to climate change.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Joan Jepkemboi (Kenya-2023)</image:title>
<image:caption>Joan was born and raised in Baringo country, Kenya where education for girls is still taboo in rural communities, and where child marriage is common. Typically women have very little financial support or guidance on what to expect during pregnancy and childbirth, and thus many young mothers find themselves in dangerous situations–maternal deaths occur daily in Joan’s community. It was growing up in this environment and volunteering as a health community worker that led Joan to found Afya Mashinani, an NPO working with marginalized communities to improve access to reproductive and childbirth healthcare. Run by a team of medically trained volunteers, Afya Mashinani (which means ‘health in remote areas’ in Swahili) is offering professional counseling and medical solutions to women who otherwise cannot afford it. Afya Mashinani’s short-term goal is to set up mobile health clinics where women can meet with doctors and receive physical check-ups and prescriptions for essential medication.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Aisha Bubah (Nigeria-2022)</image:title>
<image:caption>Aisha Abdullahi Bubah is a psychologist with over six years’ experience practicing psychotherapy in various sectors of mental health, including addiction rehabilitation, educational, psychiatric care, and community mental health. She studied psychology as an undergraduate in Ghana, then traveled to Bangalore to complete her master’s in counseling psychology. Following graduation Aisha worked at a private addiction rehabilitation center, where many of her clients were young adults. She then volunteered at an IDP camp in Abuja, Nigeria, training lay counselors how to identify early warning signs of mental illness and make referrals for professional care within refugee populations. From these formative experiences Aisha gained the inspiration for her social enterprise The Sunshine Series, a mental health services provider in Nigeria. While Aisha works as a lead psychologist at her company, she has recently also founded a nonprofit, Idimma Health Initiative, to provide mental health services for those who couldn't possibly afford them. Idimma’s offering is two-fold: to provide vocational skills for those suffering—but able to professionally function—with mental illness and their caregivers, and to train lay counselors working with the most vulnerable people in Nigeria. Aisha is a 2016 YALI fellow and the national president of YALI RLC Nigeria Alumni Chapter 2018.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Gcina Dlamini is from the Kingdom of Eswatini. He graduated from the University of Swaziland with a degree in agricultural economics and agribusiness management in 2013, and shortly thereafter co-founded his company Smiling Through Investments (STIN). STIN is an agribusiness that employs 'climate-smart agriculture'—a methodology and philosophy that takes into consideration the sustainability of farming and the environment. STIN has been recognized for its pioneering approach to farming in Eswatini, by both the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, and Pitch@Palace in London in 2018. In 2019 Gcina co-founded his nonprofit, Eswatini Youth Biodiversity Network (EYBN), because the success of STIN demonstrated that climate-smart agriculture is the future of farming, and that more farmers in Eswatini need to be taught to farm under this vital paradigm. Gcina cares deeply about biodiversity and nature in general, and he is determined to teach his compatriots how to save their country’s biggest resource: its land. Gcina was part of the 2018 Mandela Washington fellowship and is a YALI South graduate. He currently resides in Manzini.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Janina Peter is the founder of Bridging Gaps, a nonprofit that is helping facilitate microloans and entrepreneurial training within underserved communities primarily in Africa and South-East Asia, with the goal to expand across the global south. Janina studied business administration and development economics in Germany before becoming a freelance food systems specialist. Over the last few years she has consulted for the UN World Food Programme, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, The Hunger Project, and Thought For Food, among others. She has also worked with multiple private sector organizations on building sustainability strategies and facilitating their partnerships with nonprofits. As a food systems consultant Janina has worked with many communities to strengthen their food security, using methods such as human-centered design, systems practice, and storytelling. In 2022 Janina founded Bridging Gaps, to help financially struggling locals gain microloans in order to get sustainable projects started in areas where they are needed the most. Janina sees Bridging Gaps as an innovative approach towards reaching the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, namely Zero Poverty and Zero Hunger. Janina is also an Amani Institute Social Innovation Management fellow and Co-Lead of their Food Systems Circle.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rogers Omollo is from Kenya and lost both of his parents to AIDS as a child. His nonprofit, Activate Action, is a community-based organization in Homa Bay that operates out of a youth-run center within Makongeni hospital. Its services include education and consultation for young people on sexual and reproductive health, mental health, HIV management, teenage pregnancy, and child online protection. Given that Homa Bay has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in the country, the organization focuses on offering adherence counseling for those living with HIV, and spreading awareness about HIV transmission, prevention, and stigma. Young people coping with living with HIV, compromised mental health, abusive relationships, or teenage pregnancy can use Activate Action as a resource by visiting the center and being welcomed by other youths working there. Rogers is determined to create a culture within his community whereby HIV testing, discussing sexual and reproductive health rights, and asking for help are not taboo. Rogers also serves in leadership positions at ONE East Africa, Youth advisory council for health and as county global peace ambassador in Homa-Bay.</image:caption>

<image:title>Funded Graduates - Kuol Arou Kuol (South Sudan/Uganda-2022)</image:title>
<image:caption>Kuol Arou Kuol is a peacebuilder and youth activist in South Sudan. He holds a bachelor’s degree in procurement and logistics from Kampala University. Although Kuol considered a career related to his degree, he has always felt compelled to work with South Sudan’s displaced and vulnerable groups, in particular youth. Kuol himself had a childhood that was significantly affected by war, and he feels strongly about helping others still displaced or otherwise struggling as a result of 2013's civil war. The latest conflict in South Sudan has caused people to flee from villages and refugee camps, and into cities for protection and the promise of livelihood. But urban areas are now overwhelmed with young people and too few job opportunities, making them havens for crime, while villages, once the vibrant food-baskets of the country, turn to ghost towns. In 2018 Kuol co-founded SPEAK, an organization that facilitates conflict-resolution between refugees and their host communities, and among refugees themselves. In light of SPEAK’s success, since last year Kuol has been aiming his efforts at starting a new nonprofit, ARTE (Action for Rural Transformation and Empowerment), which attempts to draw migration back into rural locales by teaching groups how to sustainably fish and farm. Kuol is an alumnus of the Peacebuilding Institute Rwanda, YALI East, the African Changemakers Fellowship, Ashoka Leaders Academy, Ubuntu United Nations, and he is a generation change fellow at the United States Institute of Peace.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Maribel Rodriguez grew up in New York City as the daughter of an immigrant parent from Colombia and an American parent from Puerto Rico. She studied photography as an undergraduate at The Rochester Institute of Technology, then studied social enterprise at American University for her master’s. The idea for Maribel’s budding organization, Love 4 Immigrants, came during her graduate capstone project, out of the desire to see immigrant stories depicted in humane, dignified ways. Love 4 Immigrants seeks to create a community and platform for artists to create and showcase their work, positively shaping the narrative around immigrant topics. Founded in 2017, Love 4 immigrants has had two main larger-scale shows: the Virtual Art Healing Speaker Series in 2020, which considered themes of identity and healing, and Un-weaved Stories in 2021, which explored themes of family and storytelling, and was facilitated by VR. Maribel was a member of the youth curatorial group for the MoMA’s exhibit From Grunge to Grace in 2007, and she also served as a mentor at LearnServe International in 2018. Maribel currently works in public library administration in Maryland.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Hailey Breitenfeld is an American international early childhood care and education professional, currently teaching first grade and kindergarten students in Monrovia, Liberia. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in applied developmental psychology from UCLA, and she holds a master’s in international education from New York University. Hailey’s passion for education has led her to volunteer and work all over the world as a specialist in teacher training, curriculum development, teaching, and collecting and analyzing industry data. She also served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia, training English teachers and developing language clubs for primary students. During her latest work in Liberia Hailey has noticed a lack of support and preparation for pre-Kindergarten children in the existing education and childcare system. Her project, Strong Starts for Success, attempts to address this by providing Liberia’s youngest children with a community-based, holistic education that is safe, high-quality, and affordable.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Stark Bode (Togo-2022)</image:title>
<image:caption>Stark Bode is a Togolese entrepreneur and change-maker striving to eradicate extreme poverty in northern Togo. From an early age he was exceptionally motivated to succeed and transcend the poverty and marginalization he experienced in childhood. Stark graduated from Kara University with a bachelor’s degree in economics and international finance and later studied marketing and communications at Lehigh University in the United States. In 2017 Stark founded his own communications company in Togo, STAR-LABS, which provides advertising consultation and sign services to its clients. But Stark has been just as ambitious in his humanitarian work as he has in his professional life, believing himself to be uniquely positioned to give back to the community he was raised in. He served for two years as a volunteer at Molab, where he traveled Togo teaching computer science to 1,000 underprivileged rural students. In 2020 Stark created North Change Makers (NCM), an organization striving to foster agricultural entrepreneurship for women and youth via capacity-building training and livestock loaning programs. He is also a member of the International Leadership Association, and a Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders and YALI Dakar alumnus.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Kiruri Wahome (Kenya-2021)</image:title>
<image:caption>Kiruri Wahome lives in Mandera, a high-conflict zone in north-east Kenya bordering Somalia and Ethiopia. Given the area's political and economic instability, the local youth are particularly vulnerable to recruitment into violence, drug use, and other criminal activities. Due to various socio-political factors, teachers have left Mandera in droves, thus forcing schools to close and leaving students with no avenue to continue their education. For Mandera's skilled and educated population, employment opportunities are scarce. Kiruru's project is an attempt to soften the seemingly insurmountable challenges currently faced by Mandera's youth. The Mandera Digital Innovation Hub (MDIH), is an information and communications technology (ICT) academy with certified courses and coding modules for students. Youth who would otherwise have no access to computers will be able to enrol at the academy and learn various skills such as graphic design, app development, and coding, from trained professionals in a computer lab. MDIH will create a safe, social space for young people to develop ICT skills with which they can become self-employed. MDIH's goal is to empower and prepare Mandera's most vulnerable population to become financially independent and make the most of the digital economy. Kiruri is passionate about leadership, education, and ICT. He has over a decade of experience in youth and women's programs aimed at strengthening human security and community resilience.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Elizabeth Gitau (Kenya-2021)</image:title>
<image:caption>Elizabeth Gitau began her career as an entrepreneur when she started an employment agency for domestic workers in 2015. Her effort was in response to the fact that in Nairobi the avenues for providing or hiring domestic work were both opaque and fraught. On one hand, domestic workers were mistreated and underpaid by their employers. On the other, employers found domestic workers to be unprofessional and more often than not, a liability. Once Elizabeth realized that the social stigma surrounding domestic work was the root cause of the apparent employee-employer expectations disconnect, she closed the agency and began a non-profit. Domestic Professionals Association of Kenya (DPAK) advocates for a shift in the cultural attitudes towards domestic work in Kenya--Elizabeth wants to help transform domestic work into a legitimate profession. DPAK is establishing new industry standards for workplace etiquette and professionalism, fair wages and treatment, and employment rights in general on behalf of domestic workers. If the profession itself can be established, a major segment of currently unemployed individuals will enter into it and be able to earn a living. Elizabeth is a Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) and Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) alumna.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Bienvenu Kamwendo is a financial lawyer from Democratic Republic of Congo. He is the founder of his project, Remember Youth For Change, and Country Director of the Youth Department in the Congo Baptist Church. Bienve's project aims to ameliorate the plight of street-children in Eastern DRC, particularly those affected by war. If children who have been recruited by any of DRC’s dozens of militias can return to normal life—usually after being wounded or upon fleeing—they do so only to be stigmatized and outcast by their new locale. Bienve wants to help these children anonymously integrate back into civilian life, by offering them mentorship, sports teams to play on, and small jobs around the farm. If at-risk children can provide for themselves financially they are less susceptible to depression, self-destructive behavior, and re-recruitment. This project is located in Monigi Village in North Kivu Province.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Ntende Beka (Uganda-2021)</image:title>
<image:caption>Ntende Beka Isabirye was born in eastern Uganda and since young adulthood has been volunteering for community development programs in Uganda, including those at Restless Development, Irise Uganda, and Dance4life. From his time volunteering and getting to know hundreds of children, he noticed that rural children were at a disadvantage to their urban counterparts. Youth in urban schools with ICT programs were more interested in school because they were learning how to use computers, and therefore could research their academic interests as well as school and job opportunities outside their locale. Baker decided to tackle this support gap in a direct way: drive laptops to rural schools and equip teachers to show their students how to use them. This year (2022) Baker founded ICT4Education, a mobile computer lab that addresses the existing knowledge gap in computer literacy among learners from rural schools in eastern Uganda. Baker is also a YALI East graduate and currently resides in Jinja.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Jehu Leconte (USA-2021)</image:title>
<image:caption>Jehu Leconte immigrated to the United States from Haiti when he was 15 years old, and spent most of his career working at nonprofits serving youth and families in homeless shelters. After noticing a disconcerting trend in homelessness relapse in former clients, Jay decided to start his own organization. In 2020 he founded EDEN, a Boston-based NPO that helps families permanently escape homelessness through workforce development, lifestyle and wellness development, and financial literacy. Chronic homelessness is usually a symptom of root causes that are linked to multigenerational poverty. Because of this, EDEN has developed a coherent and holistic four-phase plan that addresses the root causes behind homelessness, instead of providing immediate, and usually unsustainable, short-term solutions. EDEN offers individualized intervention programs that are curated to meet the specific needs of each family. Jay has a Master's in Management and Leadership from Western Governor University.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Funded Graduates - Israël Baelongandi (DRC-2021)</image:title>
<image:caption>Israël Baelongandi lives in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he has advocated for disability rights for the past seven years. Israel himself contracted polio in infancy, and has experienced first-hand the trials of gaining employment as a disabled person in DRC. Places of business that are accessible are few and far between, and local stigma surrounding physical disabilities or conditions, such as albinism, causes employers to deny disabled applicants outright. In 2021 Israel and his co-founder started The Congo Innovation Academy (CINA), the aim of which is to help vulnerable disabled youth break out of poverty and become financially independent. CINA teaches practical skills like shoemaking, sewing, and other trades, as well as professional skills such as business development, book-keeping, marketing, and sales strategy. Taking into consideration the specific needs of each student, CINA prepares students for employment at an accessible place of business, or helps them develop a strategy for sustainable self-employment.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Cohort - Sandra Anyahaebi</image:title>
<image:caption>When Sandra Anyahaebi was studying Psychology as an undergraduate in Nigeria, she was told she couldn’t really make a difference unless she became a doctor. But after her first field work experience in rural Nigeria, Sandra was so moved by what she saw that she knew she had to try. During her first visit to a psychiatric ward, Sandra witnessed the appalling conditions of mental health patients, many of whom were shackled hand and foot. Shortly thereafter Sandra started a blog to spread information de-stigmatizing mental health and provide a way for people in need to seek help. It was then Sandra’s initiative, Psychbabble Foundation was born. A few years later, what began as a heartfelt blog has grown into a registered nonprofit with a clear mission: to alleviate the suffering of those affected by mental health challenges in Nigeria. She does this by spreading awareness on the science (rather than the culturally prevailing taboo) of mental health, by providing free counselling and helping psychology students train to become lay-counselors, and connecting people who are struggling with mental health in Nigeria to the resources and services they desperately need.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Cohort - Olwethu Tshiki</image:title>
<image:caption>Olwethu Tshiki is a recent graduate of Capetown University and co-founder of The Tshikazi Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that all children are prepared to enter standardised schooling in first grade. From her own volunteer work as a tutor, Olwethu saw that pre-schools outside the country’s urban areas were not equipping children to excel academically once they entered the national public school system at age 6-7. When Olwethu researched this issue at university, she found that not only were rural preschool curriculums underdeveloped, but attention to the social and emotional needs of the children was also seriously lacking. Olwethu partnered with her co-founder and teacher volunteers to conduct interviews of parents of young South African schoolchildren in underserved communities, and found that parents on average were unhappy with the quality of preschools, but had no alternative. Olwethu has developed a STEEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Environment, Art, and Maths) curriculum, based on extensive research and teacher feedback, that she hopes the South African government will adopt and implement to be standardised by rural preschools. Until then, Olwethu continues to visit and collaborate with underserved schools and offer them the curriculum she’s developed, for free.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Cohort - Viktoriia Komaryn</image:title>
<image:caption>Viktoriia Komaryn was born in a small Ukrainian village and later attended one of the country's most prestigious universities. After graduating, Viktoriia taught in a small village for three years as a recipient of the Teach for Ukraine scholarship. During this time, in 2022, Victoria and her students faced being on the front line of a full-scale Russian war against Ukraine. The students Viktoriia led had been studying from home due to COVID, and now were forced to continue studying online due to the war. Inspired to make life feel more normal for her students, Viktoriia initiated the educational and cultural exchange project Parallels, where students on the frontline territories are able to visit host families in other parts of the country, and for two weeks attend school in person, engage with other teachers and students, and explore new regions with new peers. At one level the program offers a respite (and sense of hope) for students in war-torn areas, but it also serves as a way to dismantle negative stereotypes about Eastern Ukrainians, and at a small scale, foster trust and camaraderie among the country’s youth. Viktoriia’s nonprofit idea has already involved around 70 teenagers and 7 schools, and plans to grow by continuing to engage new schools and extend its range of programs and offerings to disadvantaged students.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Cohort - Victoria Ogwanighie</image:title>
<image:caption>Victoria Ogwanighie is a Nigerian social entrepreneur, Mandela Washington Fellow, and founder of her nonprofit Kiyoko AgriLife Initiative, an organization dedicated to reducing post-harvest losses and empowering smallholder farmers across rural Nigeria. Victoria’s nonprofit idea began when at her own job in Ajuba, she was confronted by the methods farmers were using to preserve their produce, including the use of dangerous poisons and pesticides. She wanted to use local produce, cacao in particular, but could not accept that the snacks she created (chiefly for children), had potentially been contaminated by the poor practices of her farmers. So she decided to go to the root of the issue, and after learning about the staggering post-harvest loss they were suffering from, set out to educate and support farmers with practical tools—such as reusable storage sacks—and hands-on training to women and youth in farming communities. Her work bridges the gap between food security, environmental sustainability, and rural empowerment.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Cohort - Amdiya Abdul Latif</image:title>
<image:caption>Amdiya grew up experiencing first-hand the deeply-rooted stigma, poverty, and silence surrounding menstruation in Ghana. Later, whilst serving herself as an English teacher in the rural community of Nerebehi, she saw that her experience was shared much more acutely by girls in underserved rural communities. Several girls in the school she taught at were pregnant at the age of 13. These girls were living with their partners in exchange for material benefits (including basic necessities like pads) that could not be afforded to them by their single mothers or grandmothers who cared for them. Despite growing up in a community (and household) that believed education was a wasted investment for girls, Amdiyais the first of her 13 siblings to attend university, and the opportunities higher education afforded her inspired her to try to help the children she encountered in her field work. Amdiya’s efforts led to her developing a reusable pad prototype, tested and approved by girls in school, and made by disadvantaged women in the same communities. After gaining traction Amdiya started her organisation, RuGirlz EMS, which to date has impacted over 2,500 girls and women across Ghana. Amdiya sees her education as a powerful tool that lifted her from poverty, and gave her access to a completely new reality. She wants other Ghanaian girls to have the same opportunities, and believes period poverty is an avoidable setback that must be addressed. RuGirlz provides free or subsidized reusable sanitary pads, menstrual health education, and mentorship to girls in rural schools, orphanages, and refugee camps. It also recruits vulnerable women as pad-makers and health-educators.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Cohort - Gabriel Bell-Gam</image:title>
<image:caption>Gabriel Bell-Gam is a Nigerian-born cultural technologist and curator based in Canada, with a deep commitment to digitization and preservation of African heritage. His nonprofit, the Bell-Gam Digital Cultural Heritage Center, is focused on creating a digital repository for African heritage items that are at risk of otherwise being lost. Gabriel discovered through his travels home and curatorial work that much of the African art and items of cultural significance he interacted with had no digital representation; they weren’t visually recorded or stored anywhere that students or academics (or curious individuals) could access. His work draws on his technical abilities and his passion for seeing endangered aspects of his culture preserved. He has been leading an initiative called the Silent Heritage Project, a long-term field-based initiative using photogrammetry, 3D scanning, and VR to preserve endangered cultural assets in the Niger Delta — including royal regalia, oral traditions, and architecture of the Opobo Kingdom. Alongside this initiative, Gabriel hopes his nonprofit will build comprehensive digital asset management systems for items he and his volunteers record, and also support African museums and galleries to do the same.</image:caption>

      <image:title>2025 Cohort - Mary Ameh</image:title>
<image:caption>Mary Ameh’s newly registered nonprofit, STEM Garden Initiative addresses food injustice by teaching low-income community members to grow their own food at school and at home. Mary remembers what it was like to go to school hungry—a daily reality faced by many students in rural Nigeria. While serving as a fellow at Teach For Nigeria in an underserved school, Mary observed that a number of her students came to school on empty stomachs, leading to loss of concentration and participation in class activities, and some even missed school on account of dinner being the only meal served at home. STEM Garden has begun to make a difference by providing schools in need with gardening programs and the materials to execute them (seeds, tires for planting, tools when possible), tree-planting excursions, and education on climate change and climate-smart agricultural practices. Students learn how to grow their own vegetables at school, and parents of students are given the resources to also create gardens at home. Teachers are also a crucial part of the STEM Garden Initiative, as the organisation offers specialised training for educators to integrate hands-on gardening into their curriculum, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to inspire young learners. Slowly but surely communities Mary is helping are gaining access to improved food systems and becoming aware of climate-smart agricultural practices. The longer-term goal is that this will also equip students with transferable skills in agribusiness.</image:caption>
